Welcome to HillingdonWe are keen to invite you to join the Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy service working in the outer London borough of Hillingdon.We have an exciting opportunity for a term-time only band 6 speech and language therapist to join the mainstream schools speech and language therapy team.This post will be based at Pinkwell Primary School in Hayes, following the schools decision to buy in additional speech and language therapy time. This will be a 1 year fixed term contract initially, but with a view to this being extended.You will work alongside two other speech and language therapists who also work in Pinkwell Primary School – the link therapist who works with the established mainstream caseload and the therapist who supports the children who are part of the Special Resource Provision for children with severe speech and language needs.We can offer you:An opportunity to work with the school to set up a new model of working to promote the development of speech, language and communication skills – with support available from a more senior therapist working in the schoolA supportive, friendly team of speech and language therapy colleaguesAn identified buddy who will meet with you every week at first to help you settle in and who you can ask lots of questionsRegular supervision meetings with a senior therapist every 6 weeks, along with an annual appraisalTermly peer supervision meetings where you can discuss difficult cases, read articles together and share your experiencesPlenty of informal opportunities for support with your speech and language therapy colleagues working in the schoolA laptop with Skype and Lync phone facilities so that you can work efficiently and effectively in the schoolOpportunities to develop your clinical skills and knowledge through termly study afternoons, shadowing more experienced therapists, membership of a CEN, opportunities to invite a senior therapist for a joint consultationWhat our staff say about the team:“Working in the schools team has enabled me to develop the clinical and professional skills that I have needed to become a specialist therapist for very different client groups. The service seeks feedback from parents and schools each year.A strong track record on innovation and service developmentThe RoleYou will work closely with the headteacher, SENCO/Inclusion manager and senior link therapist to set up and develop a new way of working to support the development of speech, language and communication skills across children at the schoolYou will jointly plan how to use your time in schools with the headteacher SENCO/Inclusion manager and senior link therapist each term; allowing you to be flexible, creative and effectiveYou will be responsible for the assessment and therapy for the children attending Pinkwell Primary on the bought in time caseload who have identified SLCN needs including: language difficulties, speech difficulties, stammering, selective mutism, learning difficulties and ASDYou will have the opportunity to work directly with the children in groups and individually with an LSA observing the sessions in order to carry out follow up work – in discussion and negotiation with the schoolYou will offer training, advice and support to school staff – in discussion and negotiation with the schoolYou will offer training and advice to parents – in discussion and negotiation with the schoolYou will support parents of children on the bought in time caseload and keep in regular touch with them via termly phone calls or meetings, as well as sending them copies of termly care plans and targets and any reportsYou will jointly set and review targets/ care plans with school staff /parentsYou will lead on/contribute to audits etc in order to provide evidence that the service being provided is being effectiveYou will lead on/contribute to projects which form part of the service improvement planYou will offer buddying and possibly supervision to more junior therapists once you have settled in to the post Proposed interview date: 24.5.18This advert closes on Monday 14 May 2018 View full job description
