Do you thrive on a challenge and want to make a difference to patients at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in the Division of Medicine?Exciting opportunities have arisen on Ward 21 for band 5 staff nurses who are both experienced and newly qualified nurses in our busy and friendly acute stroke unit. We are a rapidly developing and forward thinking ward with an established nursing team who strive to provide an excellent standard of care to all patients.We are looking to appoint dynamic individuals with strong interpersonal skills that will look forward to the challenges of nursing patients who have had a stroke or TIA (transient ischaemic attack). This role would be suited to an individual who is highly motivated, committed and enthusiastic, have strong clinical skills and a desire to develop and consolidate, knowledge and skills in caring for stroke patients.Ward 21 have a focussed development programme in stroke care competency, and have established pathways towards stroke specialist nursing, we also provide the opportunity to work towards leading emergency clinics, and inreach/outreach to areas such as ED and other wards to deliver intra-venous and intra-arterial thrombolysis. There are lots of opportunities to develop multi-extended roles in supporting the treatment of our core patient groups. Ward 21 is also actively involved in national and international research projects, working closely with UCLAN and commercial bodies to develop stroke care, successful candidates will have opportunity to be involved through working in a highly pro-active and dynamic team with widespread experience and skills in stroke care and development.We provide a 24 hour nurse/consultant led outreach service for thrombolysis which involves working in the emergency department, aided by the use of telemedicine technology, for out of hours review and assessment. We are constantly optimising our services in accordance to our patient requirements. Ward 21 has recently been awarded the quality mark for older patient care, and can provide training in areas such as end of life, dementia care, etc. Alongside working with a dynamic team of experienced nurses you will be expected to assume responsibility for maintaining high standards of nursing care and optimising patient experience, the ability to provide clinical leadership and management of the ward. You will be joining a dynamic forward thinking multidisciplinary team committed to delivering high quality services to our client group.We will provide you with a full induction programme, accessible support and advice from the Medical Directorate Team.
