To assist in organising, promoting and supervising activities as part of the Community-Campus programme. For students under-18 adhering to the supervision standards set by the National Minimum Standards for the Accommodation of students under 18 in FE Colleges.                            Main Duties and Responsibilities Other1.      To comply with and promote College Health and Safety policies and take appropriate responsibility to ensure the health and safety of self and others.2.      To understand, comply with and promote the colleges Safeguarding policy and procedures.3.      To understand, comply with and promote the colleges Diversity policies and procedures.4.      To engage in continuous professional development.5.      To undertake such other reasonable duties as may be required from time to time and review this Job Description at least annually through the College appraisal scheme.6.      Travelling and working away from normal base may be required 7.      To assist the Accommodation Team in providing a safe and secure environment in whichstudents can study, work and enjoy college life.8.      To support the Accommodation Team in ensuring students comply with College rules and regulations.9.      To support the Accommodation Team in the organisation and supervision of evening and weekend enrichment activities.10.  To provide daytime cover on a rota basis for the Accommodation Officer on bank holidays and days the College is closed. Specific Duties 1              To offer First Aid to students (once qualified) and be available to assist the Accommodation Team with emergency procedures, including calls to emergency services, when necessary.2              To accompany another member of the Accommodation Team on their evening patrols of the Halls of Residence.3              To accompany another member of the Accommodation Team when regular checks of sick students in Halls of Residence are necessary.4              To assist the Accommodation Team in providing a personal support service for students (including the development of peer mentoring) by identifying those causing concern and encouraging them to seek support through college support systems.5              To organise and supervise a range of social and other enrichment activities for students and prospective students under the direction of the Head of Residential Accommodation Services, Accommodation Officer and Wardens.6              To promote the College’s Equal Opportunities policy and help discourage incidents of bullying, harassment or any other form of discrimination and report such to the Head of Residential Accommodation Services or, if a Safeguarding concern, directly to the Director of Student Support and Engagement. Student Wardens are not permitted to introduce sanctions or authorise/conduct punishments. 7              To safeguard and promote the health and welfare of students particularly in respect of college policies on under age purchase/consumption of alcohol, excessive consumption of alcohol and possession, use or sale of illegal drugs.8              To be members of the Accommodation Team and participate in the self-evaluation and improvement of the college service to students.9              To be a role model for other students in all aspects of College life.10              To provide cover as per the rota out-of-term-time, including Christmas and Easter. General Duties 1.      To clean the Warden’s flat on a rota basis;2.      To keep the office in a tidy and presentable state;3.      To attend Accommodation Team meetings, approximately every 4 weeks;4.      To remove dirty kitchen utensils once a week from kitchens and put in the bike store as per the rota;5.      To wear the uniform and Student Warden lanyard at all times whilst on duty;6.      To promote St Mary’s Halls of Residence by being ambassadors of the College on Open/Interview Days and delivering letters/leaflets in the local community to meet the needs of the College;7.      To arrange cover for any shifts you are unable to honour as per the rota, maintaining the gender mix and giving at least 5 working days’ notice when there are issues with cover;8.      To work on the understanding that the rota can be changed to lone-working if there are no students under the age of 18 if 5 working days’ notice is given by the Head of Residential Accommodation Services, Accommodation Officer or Warden.9.      To be contactable throughout the shift via Duty Phone and/or radio;10.  To perform such other duties as may be within the general character of the post;                                           Person specification:  Student Warden                                                        Ref: 183/12S (E = Essential  D = Desirable) SKILLS AND CORE COMPETENCIESHow MeasuredTechnical competency (qualifications and training)1.        A good level of general education (E)2.        1st Aid at Work or equivalent (D)3.        Commitment to and evidence of CPD (E)Qualification certificates Job related training certificates/CPD logApplication, interview and references  Experience1.        Student Wardens must be 18 or over and on a full time course at Wiltshire College (E)2.        To have developed a mature approach in handling a wide variety of situations and using appropriate initiative.
