An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Band 6 nurse to join the Transplant Nurse Practitioner Team at the Oxford Transplant Centre caring for patients following transplantation. The Churchill Hospital is a very busy transplant centre performing kidney, pancreas, Islet and Intestinal transplants. This post will be for a year’s maternity cover and will offer a band 5 / 6 nurse the opportunity to develop their clinical nursing skills within this speciality. You will be based in Oxford in a predominately outpatient setting, but the role involves covering peripheral outreach clinics so a full current driving license is essential. You will be working as part of a MDT, as well as, after appropriate training, an autonomous practitioner.The success of our team is down to our supportive and compassionate ethos and the trust we have with each other. We are looking for someone who is a great team player, shares our ethos and is dedicated and flexible with their approach to work. Excellent communication, problem solving and time management skills are a necessity. Due to the nature of this role, situations which are changeable and unpredictable can often arise. In order to meet such challenges an advanced level of practice is required. Whilst these skills are being developed there will always be support and the option to refer to other team members if required.The post holder should have a renal nursing background or experience in caring for organ transplant recipients, and demonstrate clinical expertise and good management skills within this speciality.Within three months of starting this post, and following a supportive period of training, you will be expected to join the recipient coordinator on call rota, providing a 24hr service, including weekends and bank holidays, coordinating all transplant offers for Oxford recipients.We would be more than happy to meet with you to discuss aspects of the role in more detail.
